Minish is in a bay from which the Lochmaddy bay and the sea can be reached by kayak, shallow sailing boat, or other such craft through a myriad of islands. Minish bay is tidal but does not empty and is part of an underwater SSSI (site of special scientific interest) which includes coral reefs. Minish is a township of about 7 houses and crofts. Lochmaddy the ferrry port is 1.5 miles and the Sollas co-op and Berneray ferry (to Harris) are 8 miles.

  Seals live and pup on the rocks in the bay, otters come and go and an emormous variety of birds nest or pass through from owls to bonxies, golden plovers to shelducks, hooper swans to black-throated divers. The nearby Uist Outdoor Centre in Lochmaddy and the Balranald Nature Reserve by Hougharry are good places to ask about recent sightings. I lived in 2 Minish on and off for more than 20 years and brought up my daughter til she was 6. The most wonderful beaches are only 5 miles away at Clachan sands. Trout fishing is a short (8 min) walk to Stromore (sea and brown) or Washerwomans Loch (brown).
